Yes, You Should Know What Ingredients are Being Used in Your Food
When trying to lead a mindful, balanced life, one of the most important things we can do for our overall health is be aware of what exactly we are putting in our bodies. This means we must be ever so vigilant when it comes to the food we’re consuming on a daily basis. Yana Eats knows this to be true, which is why we’re on a mission to ensure that your meal delivery options are coming from the finest possible ingredients.
That’s right, there’s no mystery meats or ingredients in our kitchen which means you’ll know exactly what your family is eating come meal time!
What to look out for
Not sure what exactly you should be looking out for when out at the supermarket? Don’t worry, we’re here to break down some of the most common things in food that could harm our health.
The main issue isn’t necessarily what we are consuming, but what the animals we choose to eat may have consumed. Pollution is a continuing issue in our world, and the substances and chemicals used in various industrial processes can end up in the same animals being used for meat.
Some of these are:
- Fumonisins, a type of mold that can contaminate stored corn intended for animal consumptions
- Dioxins, these are included in World Health Organization’s “Dirty Dozen”
- Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), a class of synthetic flame retardants
Another issue is the amount of antibiotics that have been used in livestock. Chickens, cows, turkeys, pigs and other animals are regularly given antibiotics in their feed to both promote growth and prevent disease. The overuse of these antibiotics not only shows up in the meat we consume but has also contributed to the amount of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, aka superbugs, that can be found in meats.
How to keep your family safe
It is difficult to always know what’s going into your family’s food, but you can take some steps to be more mindful of it. Embrace the farm-to-table movement, which can provide a bit more insight at how livestock has been raised. Also watch those food labels. Items like “grass-fed beef” and “Free-range chicken” usually means there was less of a chance that the animals were given questionable feed or raised in conditions that require regular antibiotics. Also find out what methods of pest control is being used for your fruits and vegetables. It’s always a good plan to go for organically and locally grown produce.
Yana Eats is devoted to making sure only the best and highest quality ingredients are being used in our kitchen. We’re vigilant about what we serve our own family and that, by extension, also includes your family through our meal delivery service! Have any questions about where we source our produce, fruits and meats? We are more than happy to discuss it with you.
